The Southern Cassowary (Casaurius casuarius) are thought to have evolved around 60 million years ago and are one of the closest living relatives to the velociraptor! They’re huge flightless birds, they can run at speeds up to 50km/h, jump 2m in the air and they’re great swimmers. Sign them up for the Olympics! Those legs can also kick, and with their dagger-like claws that’s no joke.   Cassowaries are a keystone species, playing a vital role in maintaining the rainforest ecosystem through seed dispersal. I had to make their iconic fluffy feathers in the sweater details!
